What is Functional Skills Training and Community Reintegration Program?

  • Functional Skills: Describe life skills needed to participate in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). ADLs include self care, such as dressing, grooming, bathing, and toileting. Training for these skills may relate to cognitive, social, and/or physical demands.
  • Community Reintegration: Occupational Therapists may work with individuals in real life settings such as the grocery store, bank, mall, bus/train, workplace, home, or any other environment in which they need to regain competence in occupational performance, or their daily routine.
  • Occupational Therapists are experts at providing, reshaping, and training patients in functional skills needed to participate in Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
